Facilitator only

Running order, cautions, and what still needs your eye before Tuesday.

Running order — 60 minutes
StartLengthSegmentNote
7:005 minWelcome and opening du'aName newcomers and guests without putting them on the spot.
7:0510 minRecitation — 7:11–18Alafasy, 2:06. Read the block, then gloss 11, 12–13 and 17 closely.
7:1520 minTafsir — four unitsUnits 11 · 12–13 · 14–15 · 16–18. The qiyas point gets one sentence only.
7:3515 minDiscussionQ1, Q2, Q3 — the first two are the briefing’s questions. Fallbacks below if the room is quiet.
7:5010 minTadabbur and closing du'aDo not cut the tadabbur. Leave the last 3–4 minutes for the du'a; Sunan Abi Dawud 5074 is the natural one to close on.

Welcoming the group

Newcomers and guests are likely on this passage — the story of Iblis is one of the few people already half-know. Take the first minute to say that the session assumes nothing, and that Q1 is answerable without any background. Participants may pass or use general examples; personal disclosure is optional.

Teaching with care

Was Iblis an angel?

Answer it plainly from 18:50 — he was of the jinn, and he was among the angels when the command was given — then move on. Keep this answer grounded in the wording of the verse.

The qiyas point

One sentence: Iblis used his comparison to oppose an explicit command. Al-Qurtubi distinguishes that from legitimate legal analogy. Keep discussion of the principles of legal reasoning brief, and do not leave the room thinking reasoning itself is the problem.

The four directions

The ayah names four and stops. Above and below are both unmentioned. The “mercy descends from above” line is a reported comment from Ibn 'Abbas — give it with the attribution and do not build “every side but one” out of it.

Why was the reprieve granted?

Decree and wisdom, as both mufassirun have it. Do not speculate further.

Blame-shifting and 7:16

Fair as an editorial application about evading responsibility. Not the meaning of aghwaytanī — Qurtubi and Tabari both treat divine decree substantively here. Keep the two apart when you say it.

Physical description of Iblis or of the Fire

Nothing on the pages rests on an unestablished narration, and nothing should be added from memory in the room.

If the room goes quiet

On Q1:

“Whose advice do you find hardest to take, and why that person?”

On Q2:

“Think of a good habit you did manage to start. What nearly stopped you?”

On Q3:

“What blessing did you notice today, and how might you respond to it?”

Review before teaching

This session was built from the research pack at revision 3, which you reviewed twice. Still worth your eye: the five hadith summaries, which are plain-English renderings and not translations; the wording of the four tafsir unit takeaways; and the Arabic on the hadith page, which was copied from Sunnah.com but has not been proofed character by character. The session briefing and whole-surah guide have recordings, chapter links, and transcripts. Recheck the recordings after any script change.
